Committees

View a list of 2010 Committee members.

Interested in serving on a 2011 global Committee? Take a moment to review the below information and then apply access the interest form at the bottom of this page. Completed forms are due by 5 p.m. (New York) on October 4, 2010.

Committees and Committee Selection Process
Serving on a global ICF Committee provides a significant opportunity for ICF members to participate directly in the association's growth and future successes, as well as enhance their own personal growth.

Each August, ICF posts a Committee interest form which interested members may complete in order to share their interest in serving on a Committee the following year.

Thinking about applying to serve? Take a moment to learn more about Committees options and Committee member requirements:

Conference Education Steering Committee & Subcommittees
The Conference Education Steering Committee & Subcommittees are responsible for the review and evaluation of proposals submitted through ICF's Call for Conference Presentations process and make recommendations of programs to accept. Subcommittee members work with selected speakers to fully develop session content, structure and session materials. Educational programs as a whole must be diverse in scope and must support the key objectives and goals of ICF's strategic plan and provide extraordinary educational opportunities for conference attendees. Each subcommittee is chaired by a member of the Conference Education Steering Committee and reports to the full Conference Education Steering Committee.

Conference Education Subcommittees volunteers will hold regular teleconference meetings over a course of 9 to10 months. Meetings are scheduled bi-monthly for the first 2 to 3 months; and then once per month after speakers/programs are selected. Work will need to be carried out virtually between Committee calls (proposal review/evaluation, speaker/session development, etc.). Committee work is heavier during the first quarter-half of the year due to proposal review.

Depending on the global composition of the Committees, calls will be scheduled so that the majority of members can participate. Please note that with a global membership, this means calls could be as early as 5 a.m. or as late at 10 p.m. depending on a subcommittee member's location.

Please note that Conference Education Subcommittee members serve in a voluntary role and do not receive a complimentary registration to the ICF Conference, but are recognized for their efforts during the event.

Credentialing/Accreditation Committee
Responsible for oversight and improvements to ICF Credentialing and Program Accreditation processes. Follows industry trends and guides long-term strategy for ICF.

Education Committee

Independent Review Board

Marketing Committee
Charged with focusing on external audiences worldwide by creating opportunities to educate the public about the value of coaching and position ICF as the authoritative voice in the coaching industry for coaches, consumers and the media.

Membership & Community Committee
Charged with developing strategies for member recruitment, retention, participation, while addressing and anticipating member needs--supporting all specialties.

Regulatory Committee
Charged with exploring what regulatory issues members are facing or may face globally as the profession grows. Develops the ICF's position on regulatory issues.

Research Committee
Charged with seeking out and developing coaching research that will drive the content of ICF programs and allow coaches to guide their work by evidence-based practices.

Committee Membership Appointment Process
Each year the incoming President-elect appoints the membership of Committees and taskforces by reviewing the Committee interest forms. The President-elect consults with current Committee chairs, staff members and others in making this decision. We strive for diversity in the makeup of our Committees. Should any Committees or taskforces be assigned within the current year, such appointments are made by the President.

Time Commitment
There is a time commitment to consider when applying for a Committee position; Committees hold at minimum quarterly meetings via teleconference and at times subcommittees may be developed which may require additional meetings and work outside of meetings.

Committee Composition
We strive for diversity in the makeup of ICF Committees. We need diversity of culture, ethnicity, professional, education and geographic nature.

Term of Service
The term of service is one year, renewable up to three years. The chairperson is usually selected from the previous year's Committee membership and generally serves in this leadership position for one year. We strive for continuity from year to year, thus a certain number of Committee members and/or the chairperson may be asked to serve a second term.
